Loud Booms and Explosion Sounds during San Diego Power Plant Demolition – February 2 2013

0

On Saturday, February 2 2013, at around 7AM, a power plant in Chula Vista, California, looming over the San Diego Bay, was demolished after 200 pounds of charges ignited 300 pounds of dynamite strategically embedded in steel beams exploded. It will be replaced by a city park. As you will see in the footage, the implosion turned this massive body of concrete and steel into dust. Very impressive! Hundreds of people gathered on-site to enjoy the spectacle. The power plant was constructed in the 1950s. It went from burning fuel oil to natural gas and was able to generate enough power for a half-million homes in Southern California. UT San Diego
