Loud booms during a steam release at Conoco Phillips refinery in Wood River, Illinois – February 21 2013

WOOD RIVER, IL. – A steam release, to relieve pressure at the Wood River Refinery was reported by some residents living around. Originally, it was reported that a loud boom came from the plant, having residents thinking that a sonic boom had occurred at the refinery, possibly an explosion. However, officials say that the weird noise was only steam being let off from the plant to relieve some pressure. In conclusion: No injuries and no explosion at the Wood River Refinery. – Fox2
