Tragic Air Show: Commemorating Victims of the Ramstein Air Show Accident 25 years ago

The Ramstein air show disaster occurred in 1988.

As shown in the video below, one of the planes crashed like a fireball into the crowd. 70 people died, more than 1,000 were injured, 450 of them seriously. Terrible moment!

The Plane that was supposed to be the “Arrow” in the Pierced Heart Maneuver misjudged his Altitude by about 20 Feet! Ironically, this group (Italian Air Force) had done the maneuver successfully at an airshow in France about 3 weeks earlier!

On the 25th memorial day, last year, commemorative services had been organized to remember victims of this tragic accident in Rhineland-Palatinate Germany.

The Ramstein airshow was the last time any aerobatic teams were allowed to fly over the crowd. It was a terrifying accident waiting to happen.

  1. I was there working as a cop in the Air Force. Responed to the scene and worked two days straight. Crowd control. Body bags. Bad times.
