This is an incredible footage of a vortex sending straw up to hundreds of feet in the air on a quiet field in Dummer (Hampshire), just after harvest. Magnificent!
Hay or straw ‘tornado’ whips through Dummer in Hampshire
In the Youtube video posted by farndek (YouTube), it looks as if supernatural forces are at work: It was completely still all around the vortex! But, of course, the more rational explanation is that whirlwinds can form anywhere and at any time.
Description of the video:
The harvest has been gathered in, leaving the rows of straw awaiting to be baled. As I walked alongside this vortex appeared and started sending the straw in a anti clockwise spiral.
