You probably remember the massive sinkhole that swallowed 8 Corvettes two weeks ago. Now, this really amazing video features the collapse of the crater floor of the Puʻu ʻŌʻō (can we call it a lava sinkhole?), one of the cones of the Kīlauea volcano in Hawaii.

The fantastic timelapse has been caught on March 5, 2011, by a team of USGS scientists. It’s a compression of 7 hours of images (4 am and ends at 11 pm) during which the crater’s floor dropped about 115 meters (377 ft). Yes it really looks like the door to hell.

According to Wikipedia:

The Puʻu ʻŌʻō has been erupting continuously since January 3, 1983, making it the longest-lived rift-zone eruption of the last two centuries.
