Seven people were injured and a girl killed after violent storms, floods and a tornado have put Mississippi in a state of emergency.

A tornado hit rural Covington County just after 2 a.m. Monday as a system that brought severe weather and flooding swept across Mississippi.

There is almost nothing left from these homes in Covington County in the U.S. state of Mississippi. They were destroyed by a tornado, which touched down at around 2am in Collins, Mississippi, on Monday, April 7, 2014. But luckily, only seven people were hurt and none of them seriously.

These storms, for example in Alabama and Mississippi, were accompanied by heavy rain falls that triggered floods. These violent storms also uprooted trees and caused traffic chaos. The missing girl was found dead in a flood plain!
