A resident of Gerlafingen in Solothurn was waken up by loud booms and glowing red rocks in the sky!

What the heck was that? UFO? Fireballs? No! The flying stones and loud blast are related to an explosion at a Swiss steel plant. But what an explosion!

There are weird things flying in the sky these days… But WTF!

According to officials, the explosion was triggered by the mixing of around 600 degrees hot slag with water. Pretty dummy, no? And this could have ended pretty badly! Look at the size of the flying chunks of rock!

Residents around the plant were suddenly woken up by a large explosion blast at 4:00 am on July 12, 2014. Some thought the earth was trembling (earthquake), while others thought a thunderstorm was passing by.

And then, some glowing red-hot stones, like meteorites started flying by… WTF?!? Witnesses have found rocks of 20 inches in diameter. Moreover, a stone of about 50 kilograms (100 pounds) had landed into the river Emme. They were still hot even hours after the explosion.

Fortunately nobody was around when the steel plant exploded. Photo: Pesse, This is not a meteorite! A chunk discovered in the Emme after a steel plant explosion in Switzerland on July 12 2014. These flying glowing rocks resembling UFOs triggered some damage in the residential district (car). But fortunately this happened at a time when hardly anyone was on the street.
