This is all misconception. Basenji dogs can bark. No mute dogs here… But if you are looking for a dog that doesn’t make much noise, this is your perfect choice.

But be warned! Basenji dogs aren’t silent and do make some noise.

Although this breed is unable to bark like a traditional dog due to its narrow larynx, the Basenji vocalizes through yodels — which sound like “baroos” or howls

Facts About Basenji Dogs

The Basenji is a breed of dog native to Central Africa and is used as a proficient hunter (maybe because it doesn’t bark like other dogs).

We have learned throught the audios above, that Basenji’s don’t bark like other dogs, but yodel.

This breed first left the Congo in ancient times as a gift to Egyptian pharaohs. It only made his way to England or America in the mid-1900s.

They were developed to spend their time outside during the day and they don’t like nighttime walks.

In ancien times, the Basenji was bred with wild animals. This is also maybe why they look so curious and why they don’t care to be left outdoors.

This type of dog has no body odor and behaves a bit like a cat (very clean, loves attention and affection, sometimes feeling anxiety, discomfort and enjoy grooming). Pretty cool, no?

Basenji bark is very funny. Did you know that red foxes also bark at night?
