Strange Lights Over Bardarbunga: Volcanic Plumes Associated to Gas Tornado?

0

What are these strange lights over Bardarbunga Volcano during its first eruption?

Are these clouds? Or volcanic plumes associated to a gas tornado? I may have an explanation!

One thing is clear, there were weird lights coming out of the volcano and actually nobody knows how to explain this weird phenomenon caught by a livecam:

However, one week ago, a swirling 1-kilometre-high tornado of gas has been caught emerging from the lava pouring out of a fissure on Iceland’s Bardarbunga volcano.

So could this video just be a similar gas tornado? Yes could it just represent a volcanic plume, a column of hot volcanic ash and gas emitted into the atmosphere during the first  Bardarbunga explosive volcanic eruption? If you look closer, it kinds of swirl. Well maybe it’s just my imagination!

But if my explanation turns to be right, then you should know that it is not entirely clear what is causing a volcanic tornado. It may form through a similar mechanism as that for dust devils. However, in our case, the tornado funnel is most likely filled with sulphur dioxide, gas and volcanic ash.
