Sometimes, when the soil is saturated in water it starts sliding!

Watch the terrifying moment the ground collapses and opens up in the province of Benguet, Philippines.

This message accompanies the soil liquefaction video:

Nangyare sa Benguet noon Aug 26, 2015… NAKAKATAKOT!This is usually called liquefaction, but no earthquake could be the cause of deforestation or shifting of water from below.Send Prayers to them.

Soil liquefaction occurs when:

“[…] a saturated or partially saturated soil substantially loses strength and stiffness in response to an applied stress, usually earthquake shaking or other sudden change in stress condition, causing it to behave like a liquid. […]”

No earthquakes have been reported in the area on 25-26 August 2015.

But people commenting on the video blame the government for drilling deep water supply wells around the country thus destabilizing slopes and ground.

This soil liquefaction video is insane! Prayers for them!
