There is a new 200-foot long mystery island in the middle of Pinto Lake, California since March 10, 2016.
This mysterious piece of wetland broke off during extreme storms and then floated across the lake, amusing neighbors and people at Pinto Lake City Park.
But this strange phenomenon does not baffle park managers who state that Pinto Lake is 8,000 years old and constantly changing.
Moreover, small sections of wetland about 4 feet wide break off and drift into the lake all the time, which provide habitat for a number of species, such as ducks.
But this new island stands out because it is estimated to be 200 feet long, and even has a few willow trees on it.
The mysterious island just showed up one morning. Nobody knows where it came from and how far it’s come.
But it’s big enough to be a problem if water levels drop and the island stays where it is. As it is close to the dock boats could be locked in.
Now, scientists have to determine if the island is still floating or if it’s settled here. If the island doesn’t “take root,” it will have to be anchored.
