As heavy smoke hampered the use of special aviation to fight the current forest fires in the Irkutsk region.
The army started using two UR-77 Meteorit Mineclearing Vehicles :-). Yes they use bombs to fight a fire!
Such vehicules are used to create a breach in minefields under combat conditions. Demining is carried out by a shock wave from the explosion of a charge.
In our case, the UR-77 can launch two DM-70 solid-fuel missiles. These solid rockets are rockets with a rocket engine that uses solid propellants (fuel/oxidizer) that can clear a path of more than several hundred meters.
These controlled explosions burn oxygen and thus smother the flames. In addition, the shock wave was able to cut off the fire in the most dangerous areas (by destroying the trees).
