What is this mysterious purple orb discovered floating over the ocean floor off the coast of California? A new species discovered?
This unidentified bright purple orb stumped scientists onboard of the research vessel Nautilus in the Channel Islands.
Scientists seem baffled by this “purple blob” and then wonder aloud “What is that?”
The researchers wonder if it might be an egg sac or an embryo of some sort. Could it be a new species of nudibranch?
The sphere has been grabbed for further studies using a remote-controlled suction tube. After sampling, it began to unfold to reveal two distinct lobes. But It could possibly take years for scientists to definitively determine whether it’s a newly discovered species!
