Macabre turtle graveyard: 400 turtles die in now completely dry oldest water dam reservoir of Brazil

Brazil’s oldest dam has become a new turtle graveyard.

Now totally dry, Açude do Cedro is covered by more than 400 carcasses of dead turtle killed by the drought.

More than 400 carcasses of turtles have been discovered in the drought-sicken reservoir. via La Patilla

The dam was one of the first major works undertaken by the Brazilian government to combat drought.

However, the reservoir does not currently contain a single drop of water.

The  “seriousness” of the situation was recently exposed by zoologist Hugo Fernandes-Ferreira who launched an urgent investigation on the impacts of the drought on the ecosystem.
