Superbolide fireball brighter than the full moon explodes and turns night into day over China

Out of this world! Locals were observing the full moon when a large fireball suddenly exploded in the sky over Shangri-La, China changing night into day.

The burning space rock exploded in a large bang which rattled houses and made animals going crazy. Watch this amazing video clip:

Skywatchers looking at the rising full moon on October 4th were baffled by three meteorites – two small ones and a huge one – exploding in the sky and changing night into day for about 5 seconds over Shangri-La County in south-west China.

The fireball was observed yesterday at 12:07 GMT at 28 degrees north latitude and 99 degrees east longitude, which matches with reports provided by Chinese media and the eyewitness, stating the deflagrating sky phenomenon occurred at around 8pm local time.

The fireball was observed at an altitude of 37 kilometres (23 miles) and it travelled at the great speed of 14.6 kilometres (nine miles) per second. The energy released by the explosion was the equivalent to detonating 540 tons of TNT.

It has been reported that pieces of the larger bright fireball could have had landed in a small village around 40 kilometres (25 miles) outside of Shangri-La.

The fireball was brighter than the full moon as it disintegrated across the sky over Yunnan Province, south-west China. The sky is currently on fire! The Draconid meteor shower is set to peak Oct. 7th or 8th.
