Flooding in Chiapas and across Tabasco after 278 millimeters of rain fall in 24 hours and the Pichucalco River overflows

A new winter storm caused heavy rains in northern Chiapas and in Tabasco, Mexico. The cumulative rainfall in the last 24 hours reached 278 millimeters in the municipality of Ostuacán and 148 in the municipality of Pichucalco, which caused a considerable increase in the Pichucalco River and, finally, its overflow. At least 80 homes in the Los Mangos and San Carlos communities were affected by the overflow of the Pichucalco River.

Rains will continue in Tabasco and in Chiapas over the next few hours. Orange alert has been activated in five regions of Chiapas and yellow alert in two more, mainly in the regions bordering the state of Tabasco.
