One person has died after huge swells battered the Durban coastline on January 21, 2018. The 7-year-old girl drowned after being washed off a pier by a big wave due to the apparent high tide and strong rip currents. Sections of the beach have been cordoned off. The huge waves were probably caused by Cyclone Berguitta which passed Mauritius a few days ago.

This is not the first time a kind of tsunami hit Durban. Do you remember the event of March 2017? Large swells caused a wave to come up right to where many were standing on the beach causing mass panic:

After Oregon, British Colombia and Portugal, now South Africa. Are giant waves spreading around the world? Tsunami warnings and watch are now set for the entire North American West Coast after a powerful and shallow M7.9 earthquake hit in the Gulf of Alaska on January 23, 2018.
