A new seismic swarm started under Cumbre Vieja volcano (La Palma), the Canary Islands on February 12, 2018. The National Geographic Institute (IGN) registered a total of 83 earthquakes, with magnitudes ranging from 1.6 to 2.6, and hundreds of tremors smaller than M1.5 between February 12 and February 16. The tremblors in this series are stronger than those in the previous swarm in October 2017, the first swarm in this area in 30 years.

The Canary Government called for an urgent meeting as the depth of the quakes are decreasing during the course of the swarm, suggesting an upward movement of magma towards the surface. This is the second such meeting in the last 4 months.

There is something weird going on there!
