New earthquake swarm at Yellowstone? More than 89 earthquakes hit near Old Faithful Geyser in Wyoming within 24 hours and their number increases every hour

Is this the second earthquake swarm of 2018 at Yellowstone? There is at least something going on. Within 24 hours, more than 89 small quakes have hit a region situated 32 km east of Old Faithful Geyser in Wyoming and their number is increasing each hour now. The earthquakes are aligned forming a fissural dike next to Yellowstone Lake. This swarm seems to indicate an intrusion of magma inside the Caldera of the Park.

The earthquake swarm began on April 11, 2018 with approximately 25 earthquakes rattling 32km east of Old Faithful Geyser in Wyoming:

24 hours later, the new earthquake swarm at Yellowstone is counting more than 89 earthquakes and this number increases every hours:

What does it mean? Hopefully nothing! But one thing is sure: there is a new swarm starting at Yellowstone. And it ressembles a full-scale magmatic intrusion with pressurization with weak earthquakes at the beginning – up to M1.5 – followed by stronger and more frequent quakes.

  1. Whoever reports on these events seems to take a pretty casual attitude toward anything happening in the park. May I remind you that there was a similar attitude around the St. Helen’s volcano before it blew. I dare wonder IF the same attitude existed in Pompeii before Vesuvius blew!?
Would it not be a wise precaution to close this area off to tourists at least until the earthquakes lessen?
