Lightnings kill at least 14 people as Cyclone Fani hits India and Bengladesh

Several people were killed by lightning strikes in Bengladesh and India as a result of destructive Cyclone Fani.

Lithning strikes kill 8 in Uttar Pradesh

Lightning during a thunderstorm killed eight people in two districts of Uttar Pradesh on Thursday. Four people were killed in Chandauli, while one person died in Sonebhadra. 

As an impact of Cyclone ‘Fani’, thunderstorm and rains lashed these two districts late on Thursday night. The Met Department has already sounded a weather alert in Uttar Pradesh for the next two days. 

According to reports, four people were killed when lightning struck and five others were seriously injured in Chandauli district. They have been admitted to the district hospital. The incident took place in Ram Mado village under Sahebganj police station. 

One elderly person also died here when a tree fell on him. 

In the second incident which took place in Pannuganj in Sonebhadra district, a youth died after being struck by lightning. Two brothers standing nearby received serious burn injuries. The brothers later succumbed to the injuries on Friday morning.

Lightning kills 6 in Kishoreganj, Bangladesh

Lightning strikes have killed six people during thunderstorms in Kishoreganj.

The district in central Bangladesh experienced thunderstorms on Friday afternoon under the influence of cyclone Fani. The monster storm was poised to hit the country in the evening after crossing Odisha coast in India. 

In Kishoreganj, two people were killed after being struck by lightning at Mithamain Upazila, three in Pakundiya, and one in Itna, police said.

One of the victims, a 7-year-old boy, was out for bringing back cattle. 

Another was cutting grass for cattle while four others were working or returning from crop field, according to police.
