Ecuador was fighting to contain the environmental impact of a fuel spill in the Galapagos Islands after a flatboat carrying 600 gallons of diesel fuel sank.

The Orca barge tipped over after a crane collapsed while it was loading a container onto it.

Authorities activated emergency protocols yesterday to contain the environmental impact of the spill in the Galapagos archipelago. One person was injured.

The Unesco World Heritage Site is home to one of the most fragile ecosystems on the planet.

The Galapagos National Park said military personnel and environmentalists were “putting up containment barriers and absorbent cloths to reduce the environmental risk.”

The situation is under control, and a series of actions have been deployed to mitigate the possible effects,” the presidential communications office said in a statement.

The accident occurred in a port on San Cristobal Island, the easternmost island in the chain.

The same barge had sunk previously in February 2018 due to a weight imbalance, in a port on the Guayas River.

At least they could charge every tourist 100$ environment fee…. Meanwhile the locals don’t give a s**t about nature and load their ships like propper lunatics.
