Sonic Booms in Kent: RAF Jets Intercept ‘Dangerous’ Latvian Cargo Plane Over London

Did you hear sonic booms in Kent? Typhoons were scrambled from RAF Coningsby, Lincolnshire, yesterday afternoon to intercept a Latvian-registered plane ‘causing concern’ over Kent. The incident created a dramatic sonic boom, which was heard across a 50-mile radius. The explosion-like sound was reported across Kent, Sussex, Hertfordshire and Essex.

Was this a terror attack? Aviation expert said response was ‘in case of another 9/11 of Parliament’. Essex police spokesman said incident was due to a ‘loss of communication’.

Flight mapping specialists said plane took unexpected detour over London. Fighters escorted the Russian made Antonov An-26 cargo airliner into Stansted.
