Reports of houses shaking and the sound of a loud boom were reported from several people in the Lincolnton/McCormick area on last Friday and Saturday. Many residents from Edgefield County, McCormick County, Lincolnton (Georgia), indeed, felt their houses shake in the early hours of Friday (April 26 2013) and heard a loud boom (similar to a sonic boom) at around 12:30 on Saturday, April 27, 2013. Earthquakes in this area are pretty common since it sits on a fault line. However, loud booms are not frequently reported.
Well after a little googling, it seems that earthquakes are the source of both strange phenomena.
For Friday April 26 2013: Three earthquakes (2.8, 2.1 and 2.2) struck near McCormick, SC, early Friday morning (first 2: 1:15 a.m and 1:30 a.m and thrid one at 11:30 a.m.). All three quakes were detected approximately 1 mile from one another with their epicenter at Lincolnton, Ga., about 9 miles from Plum Branch in McCormick County.
For Saturday 27 April 2013: A 2.3 earthquake was detected at almost the same coordinates as the previous three at around 12:45 a.m (exactly when the boom was heard).
