It’s always Halloween in outer space!
Look at this gigantic witch head screaming in the vastness of space about 900 light-years away from Earth.
Astronomers probably got shocked when they saw this weird structure for the first time!
Yes, they have called this greenish blue reflexion nebula in the constellation Eridanus River the Witch Head Nebula (IC 2118).
And yes, it looks like the scary face of an old witch who seems to scream.
What is the Witch Nebula?
The structure is a reflection nebula, which is brought to light by the brightest stars in Orion.
The fog is greenish blue, because its fine dust particles reflect better blue than red.
The pictures were taken by the NASA Space Telescope WISE.
Don’t be afraid, the Witch Head Nebula, is far, far away from us. It is located about 900 light-years away from Earth. And its spell isn’t going to hit you… Even on Halloween.
