We are entering a period of greater seismic activity because we are closer to the sun. This is one of the hyphothesis to explain the increase of large earthquakes around the world. The second is of course the destructive activity of the different tectonic plates (i.e., Pacific, Cocos and North American for Mexico).
Consequently, sea and land temperature increase resulting in adjustments on the continent and thus in a higher number of earthquakes. These may have also triggered a temperature increase of magma chambers and thus the recent eruption of Popocatépetlin Mexico, among others.
