How much area would need to be covered with solar panels in order to capture enough energy to meet global demand?
Actually, the amount of land we would need to power the ENTIRE WORLD with solar electricity is not as much as you would think, and is represented by those red box in the picture below.
This map above shows the areas to be covered by SOLAR PANELS to deliver enough solar electricity for Germany (De), Europe (EU-25), and the entire world. Of course, the tricky part is collecting that energy and converting it into useful electricity with solar panels.
Every hour, the sun radiates more energy onto the earth than the entire human population uses in one whole year. Pretty amazing, no?
