Due to heavy rain in the Dunedin region, the power was caught in hundreds of homes and many roads have collapsed.
One of the fresh sinkhole even swallowed two cars with their occupants! Nobody was badly hurt!
[quote_box_center]Occupants in two vehicles had a lucky escape when their vehicles fell into a sink hole near Dunedin last night.
Part of Highcliff Rd on the Otago Peninsula fell away after the heavy rain that swamped the region yesterday.
The first vehicle, which contained just the driver, landed upside down in the hole, while a second vehicle with two occupants fell in a short time later.
The occupants were shaken but not hurt.[/quote_box_center]
The ground may also have been softened by the 4.7-magnitude earthquake that rocked parts of Otago on June 1, 2015 and which was the strongest quake experienced in the region since 1974.
Such giant cavities are just terrifying!
