An avalanche of mud, water and stones destroyed several houses in the village of Puerto Venus, municipality of Nariño, Colombia on February 15, 2018. The images are just too impressive as the river Venus overflows, engulfing houses, uprooting trees and dragging everything on its path. Nobody is missing nor was killed during this furious natural disaster. 50 families – almost half of the village -had to evacuate their homes.
The alert was given by residents of El Piñal – a remote village situated 20 minutes walk above Puerto Venus – shortly before 10:00am (local time).
In a matter of minutes, residents of Puerto Venus left their homes and climbed the slopes to protect themselves from the fury of the waters. Fortunately everybody was able to escape in time.
A landslide in the village of El Piñar a few days ago, may have blocked the course of the Venus River and provoked the avalanche, which was fed by early morning heavy rains.

The peak on which are built the two villages is very instabile and geologists have determined iit is still moving actively. There might thus be some more disasters coming in the next days or weeks.
Hopefully, these two villages won’t disappear from maps in the near future. Always be prepared!
