At least 27 people have died from alcohol poisoning in the Khuzestan and Alborz provinces of Iran.
Some of the citizens of Ahwaz had heard that drinking alcohol could help them fight the coronavirus, so they used it as a preventive measure… What killed them.
With the outbreak of Covid-19 in Iran, rumors and unscientific treatments on how to fight the virus have spread on social media. Among them was drinking alcohol.
And some Iranians were crazy enough to drink industrial alcohol (methanol) sold in the market for sanitizing purposes.
Some got blind and others are in critical condition. At least 27 have died.
In the province of Khuzestan, 20 people died and at least 218 were hospitalized from alcohol poisoning. In contrast, there are only 73 confirmed coronavirus infections, accoring to official data.
In the northern province of Alborz, alcohol poisoning killed seven people.
Meanwhile, the Covid-19 epidemic in Iran is going out-of-control with people licking sacred shrines in Qom (Iranian coronavirus epicenter) and lying dead in morgue cemeteries.
Mass graves

National Guard is deployed to New Rochelle – the largest coronavirus cluster in the US – where a one-mile radius ‘containment area’ will shut schools, shops and temples for two weeks to stop it from spreading
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said on Tuesday that a one-mile containment area will be set up in New Rochelle in Westchester County
The area is the epicenter of of the state’s coronavirus outbreak and accounts for more than 100 of New York’s 173 confirmed cases
Radius centers around the Temple Young Israel of New Rochelle synagogue that was attended by the Manhattan attorney who has been linked to the outbreak
The shutdown, which will begin on Thursday and last for two weeks, will effect all ‘major gathering places’ including schools and places of worship
Cuomo said he was calling in the National Guard to the containment area to assist with cleaning public spaces and to deliver food to homes
The announcement about the containment area came as New Jersey reported its first coronavirus death. It is the first fatality in the tri-state area .
