This is like a horror movie! Just outside Taipei, Taiwanese found their river – the Keelung River – covered with dead fish on August 29, 2017.
Officials say it’s the largest mass die-off in recent years. The number of dead fish has not been estimated yet… Bet there are at least hundred thousands, maybe millions. Origin unknown: heat wave or pollution?
There are so many fish that they fill up barges to collect them. Bodies are found over several kilometers along the river.
Officials say the heat wave currently sweating Taiwan is responsible for the mass die-off. Taipei has broken 120 years of observation records with 36°C recorded over 16 days in a row.
The Environmental Protection Bureau sent inspectors on-site who did not measure any pollution in the water, thus concluding that the fish died of hypoxia.
Due to the enormous amount of dead fish, cleaning the shores of the river will last at least three days.
According to some officials, this mass kill may be the largest in the history of Keelung river, and is at least the worst in the last 10 years.
[…] Fish Die-off in Taiwan […]
ok, so has anyone held a NaI probe up to these poor fish to see if they’re radioactive, or are you all just in a big hurry to catch them all and sell them on the market while you can ? Who cares about what people eat and if they die, right ? All that matters is MONEYYYYYYYYY.
You can thank Fukushima for this, uh huh.
I’m never eating a single thing from the ocean again, EVER, and if anyone reading this doesn’t agree, well then you go right ahead and feast, and ENJOYYYYYYY !!
