Can you imagine that? People in Vadodara, Gujarat, India witnessed a double sun during sunset on October 30, 2014.
So what’s behind this mysterious sky phenomenon!
There are plenty of weird things happening in the sky. Yesterday, DIVYADARSHAN D. PUROHT captured amazing pictures of a double sun from the Gurudev observatory. Yes this is fact! No non-sense! Look at the pictures… They speak for themselves.
This strange physical phenomenon is neither a miracle nor a photoshop trick… Scientists call these optical illusions ‘Sunset Mirages‘. They occur when sunlight is refracted by the different density layers (different temperatures) of the atmosphere.
Usually the air temperature falls smoothly with increasing height. The most we then see is a slightly flattened sun. A mirage needs more severe temperature variations or even multiple temparature inversions. This amazing atmospheric phenomenon often presages the elusive green flash!
