A volcano in southwestern Iceland has erupted for the third time since December, pumping lava up to 80 meters (260 feet) into the air and threatening to disrupt life in Reykjanes peninsula.
Aerial footage of the eruption showed fountains of bright-orange molten rock spewing from fissures in the ground, in sharp contrast to the still-dark night sky.
The latest eruptive fissure, the sixth outbreak since 2021, was roughly 3 km (2 miles) long and believed to be in the same location as a Dec 18 eruption, Iceland’s meteorological office said.
