Sometimes there are signs in the sky… Sundogs on steroids! Iridescent clouds explosion! And haunting Moon halos!
Look at these amazing sky phenomena that appeared in the sky of the eastern US just before winter storm Jonas blanketed everything in white.
As massive winter storm Jonas engulfed the east coast of the United States, icy clouds were wafting over some states, producing spectacular halos around the sun and insane iridescent clouds:
This first picture by Adam J Kraszewski was taken on January 21, 2016 @ Rome NY, so just before Jonas swallowed up the East Coast of the United States. It features an insane sun halo and some colorful ‘fire rainbows’
Here again a zoom into these intense clouds:
The next image by Chris Cook was captured over Cape Cod, Massachusetts, on Jan. 22nd. The luminous structures around the sun comprise: a 46° halo, 22° halo, a pair of sundogs, a parhelic circle, an upper tangent arc and a Parry arc.
And now look at this amazing sun halo over Chicago. Woah!
But ice halos also appeared around the moon. Look at this picture by Kevin Skow over Iowa:
And this week-end was the “Wolf Moon,” better renamed “Storm Moon” for the Eastern US.
Here is my moon almanach if you like.
