Welcome to the original and first Ice Hotel, located in Jukkasjärvi, Sweden – 200 km north of the Arctic Circle.
This ephemeral hotel is made of natural ice and snow from one of Europe’s last wild rivers. It is rebuilt and carved each year by different designers. But, if you want to visit, don’t be too long, the hotel melts in spring.
The world’s first Ice Hotel was built in 1989 in Jukkasjärvi, Sweden, just 200km below the Arctic Circle and approximately 17 kilometers from Kiruna, Sweden.
More than 10 000 tons of crystal clear ice and 30,000 tons of pure snow are needed each year. It is taken from the still wild river Torne.
The hotel is unique and changes each year. The walls, floors and ceilings of the hotel are carved by various designers… An ephemeral collection.
Of course, you have to love ice, snow and cold temperatures if you decide to book there. But it’s a real nice experience.
The hotel melts and returns to Mother Nature in spring. So hurry up, there’s still place available.
