Deadly earthquake hits Tajikistan – 5 killed, dozen of homes destroyed

Five people were killed in a M5.9 earthquake that hit central Tajikistan on Saturday, July 10, 2021.

The earthquake caused casualties and damage. Five residents of the Buston settlement located in the Langari-Shoh community in the Tojikobod District were killed and to others injured.

The earthquake damaged powerlines and about 20 homes in several settlements and was felt in Uzbekistan.

The quake’s epicenter was 171 kilometers southeast of the city of Khujand.

Back on December 7, 2015, a monster M7.2 struck Tajikistan 105 km (65 mi) west of Murghab, killing 2, injuring dozens and destroying more than 500 buildings.

The epicenter of this quake was approximately 5.0 km (3.1 mi) away from that of the M7.3 1911 Sarez earthquake that killed 300 people and triggered a massive landslide that blocked the Murghab River and formed the Usoi Dam, the tallest dam in the world… [Tass]
