A double-decker tour bus and a Manhattan Transit Authority bus collided on East 23rd Street and 1st Avenue near Gramercy Park.
New York fire officials said some 81 people were injured in the crash. 18 people were taken to the hospital and another 63 requested medical evaluation.
The double-decker tour bus was most damaged in the crash. Its windshield was smashed and broken pieces of glass could be seen in the street, reflecting from the red, flashing emergency lights.
