Bad News: A new illness in Guinea is said to show symptoms similar to those caused by Lassa fever, yellow fever and Ebola.
At least 23 people have been killed by a probably new and unknown virus in southern Guinea within six weeks. The illness is characterized by fever, diarrhea, vomiting, and bleeding in the cases of some patients. For positive identification, scientists have taken 30 test samples for analysis (in France). Results are expected within 48 hours.
Super pandemic ahead?
Each ill patient were put in quarantine. Individual and collective measures were pronounced for the local population. Health kits intended for medical personnel and residents of high-risk areas are awaited from Burkina Faso, while the Swiss branch of Doctors Without Borders (MSF) has already sent 100 tonnes of medical equipment.
