Diaz Palomo took two long-exposure photos at 90 seconds each. At second 87 of the second shot, lightning appeared in a far cloud on the horizon.

Diego Fabriccio Diaz Palomo was standing at the top of Guatemala’s Acatenango Volcano watching the stars and the city lights from almost 4,000 meters above sea level with a friend. That was when the Fuego Volcano literally exploded. To better photograph this amazing natural phenomenon and the erupting lava, they then decided to find the right spot. And when you look at the picture… I think they really found it!
