The strongest quake, a magnitude 7.4 earthquake, hit on May 21, 2021, 18:04:15 UTC at a depth of 10 km (6.3 miles).

According to my calculations, the estimated released energy is about 7.9 x 1015 joules (2206 gigawatt hours). This is equivalent to 1.9 x 106 tons of TNT or 118.7 atomic bombs!

More than 1.5 million people live in nearby towns and cities:

381 km (237 mi) WSW of Hong Ya (pop: 256)
388 km (241 mi) SW of Xining (pop: 767,500)
397 km (247 mi) NNE of Chamdo (Tibet) (pop: 86,300)
539 km (335 mi) SW of Wuwei (Gansu) (pop: 493,100)
559 km (347 mi) SW of Jinchang (Gansu) (pop: 144,400)

At least 10 aftershocks have rattled the region following the main quake with magnitudes ranging from M3.3 to M4.5.

Here some videos:

These footages show people fleeing in the street:

A little bit less than 5 hours before, a strong M6.1 earthquake hit the southwestern Chinese province of Yunnan at 21:48 (1348 GMT) near the city of Dali at a depth of 10 kilometres.

The China Earthquake Networks Center warned people to “stay away from buildings.”

The first quake was followed by a series of strong aftershocks with magnitude ranging from M3 to M5.1.

Here some videos:

Yunnan is acutely prone to earthquakes. The region sees frequent seismic activity from the collision of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates, which form the vast Himalayan mountain range.

In October 2014, hundreds of people were injured and more than 100,000 displaced after a shallow 6.0 magnitude tremor hit Yunnan, close to China’s borders with Myanmar and Laos.

  1. Well, the redchineseys mock God, and hate religion. Then there’s that torturing animals to charge the blood as pre dinner entertainment, slavery, organ harvesting, and probably adrenochrome harvesting.

God probably says, “Shake, rattle, and roll —heathens.”
