Police is investigating the causes of severe fire. According to first indications, the fire broke out at the Chinese Restaurant in the city of Itoigawa on Thursday morning.

The fire was first limited to the area around the restaurant. But about 90 minutes after, strong winds started to blow, carrying the fire to nearby homes and shops.

In definitive, the fire destroyed 150 buildings, including houses and shops over an area of more than 40,000 sq.m. The order of evacuation remains in effect for 744 people from 363 households.

According to firefighters, the narrow streets in the area made it difficult to fight the fire.
