This is a not too friendly reminder of how fragile Puerto Rico’s power system is.
Power went out about 11:30 a.m. local time on Thursday after a massive outage struck San Juan, plunging millions of Puerto Ricans again in darkness.

PREPA confirms power generation has plummeted to 18% after a failure of Cambalache Manatee 230KV line. Municipalities in the North have been affected.

That means that the vast majority of the island’s 3.4 million residents are again without power, extending what was already the longest power outage in US history.
The lights just went out at the Puerto Rico federal emergency command center.

The power line that has failed in Puerto Rico (Cambalache Mantaí 230KV line) appears to be a line where @WhitefishEnergy did work, as recently as October 25th.

PREPA spokesman Carlos Monroig said 25% of power was back and he expects 42% of power to be restored by Friday morning. He said he didn’t know what caused the transmission line to fail.
