Two were too old, and the others too young! After the horrifying killing of giraffe Marius, the Copenhagen Zoo has just euthanized four healthy lions. The same that actually ate the poor giraffe! Pretty ironic, no?
The animal park administration justified its decision with the imminent arrival of a new powerful male lion for mating purposes, which would have killed the two pups at the very first opportunity. A new place had been searched in vain for two ten-month-old pups, however, the two older lions were simply too old.
The lion carcasses will not be disassembled in public after the recent killing of the one and a half year-old giraffe calf Marius last February, which triggered a storm of indignation around the world. Indeed, the reason for the public outcry was not only that Marius was in perfect health, but also that he had been dismantled in the sight of zoo visitors, including children.
But what I don’t understand is why, it is not possible to give these animals instead of killing them. Why not releasing them back in nature? Why not sending them back to Africa?
