This little girl is ‘truly’ dead (died of pneumonia in 1920) and no demon has infiltrated her body!
But the mummy of Rosalía Lombardo starts blinking her eyes several times a day. OMG!
The father of Rosalia Lombardo decided to embalm her before being buried in the Capuchin catacombs of Palermo in Sicily.
The work was so well done that when her mummified body was discovered, researchers gave her the name of ‘Sleeping Beauty.’ Indeed, she looks like a 2-year-old baby taking a nap!
To discover the secrets of the embalming technique, scientists put a camera inside Rosalía’s sarcophagus.
There it recorded a strange phenomenon: The mummy’s eyes started opening and closing. A phenomenon that repeated itself several times a day.
Rosalia doesn’t open and shut her eyes in reality. As stated by the curator of the Capuchin Catacombs, this baffling phenomenon is an optical illusion produced by the light that filters through the side windows, which changes during the day.
But it is still a mystery how the mummy was prepared and preserved for eternity. Salafia, a Sicilian taxidermist and embalmer who died in 1933 never revealed the chemicals used in his preperation.
