Two cars fell into an apparent sinkhole Monday night at around 4 am in rural Kane County, Illinois.
Upon arrival, police officers found a car trapped in the hole. A second vehicle, a pickup truck, had driven over the first vehicle.
The sinkhole is about 10 feet in diameter and deep enough to swallow a Taurus! It opened up in Kane County (Thomas Rd between Middleton Rd and McDonald Rd).
The two people in the trapped car were first extricated before being transported to Kishwaukee Hospital in Sycamore. They are out of danger. The driver of the pick-up was treated and released at the scene.
There are no lights illuminating streets in this rural area. This may explain why the drivers did not see the deep cave-in.
Although the cause of the sinkhole remains unexplain, it is probably related to overnight storms. The road on which the sinkhole opened up is from now on closed indefinitely. Watch more pictures of this amazing event here.
