After Mexico, the UK are cracking up… And pretty bad! This 100-ft pit was discovered just 90 yards from a farm in Cowshill, near Bishop Auckland, County Durham.

The hole is still growing. It is astonishing. When it first opened up loud bangs, crashes and rumbles were heard and felt.

In addition to lay over limestone (prone to sinkhole), this region had been heavily mined for iron or lead in the 19th-century.
