This giant sinkhole has opened up overnight in the Pennines, UK and is still growing.
Giant? Better terrifying… The 100ft-wide sinkhole is so deep you can’t see the bottom.
After Mexico, the UK are cracking up… And pretty bad! This 100-ft pit was discovered just 90 yards from a farm in Cowshill, near Bishop Auckland, County Durham.
The hole is still growing. It is astonishing. When it first opened up loud bangs, crashes and rumbles were heard and felt.
And the weather forecast aren’t so good! It will be raining over the week-end. So this deep pit could even get larger… Bad news!
In addition to lay over limestone (prone to sinkhole), this region had been heavily mined for iron or lead in the 19th-century.
Did a mine collapse formed this giant hole? Could be! How do you think this giant giant sinkhole formed in the Pennines?
