In this man’s shed on Jersey, UK lives a freaky spider called the tube web spider.
Although it is not dangerous and every shed in south of england probably has one, it looks terrifying! Look at this!
Although many viewers of this Youtube video thought looking at an Australian funnel web spider in New Jersey, this tube web spider was actually filmed in a shed in Jersey, in the Channel Isles, south of England!
Australian funnel web spider is dangerous, very aggressive and its venom can kill an adult in as little as a hour. In contrast the English tube web spider is not dangerous.
The freaky Segestria florentina, as it is known for scientists, is only the biggest European segestriid spider. It spins a tubular web, often in cracks of buildings (like in this shed).
In this video, it acts aggressive as it is probably protecting its progeniture. You can indeed see in the hole below the web smaller dark legs coming out sometimes. They are maybe from its babies! The female lays her eggs inside the tube web. Sometimes she will die after the spiderlings have hatched, and they will eat their mother.
