Is a small village in Peru going to be swollowed by a gigantic sinkhole?
The terrifying 210 meter deep crater widens daily threatening families living at its unstable edges, which could crumble into a deadly landslide.
Look at the size of this creepy sinkhole… Yes, please find out how many houses – those in the background -would find place in this gigantic crater!
Situated atop a hill called Chichurcay in the small village of Santa Ana de Ragán, district of Santa Ana de Tusi, Pasco region, Peru, this huge cavity is widening daily, swallowing pastures and agriculture lands… And probably, in a near future, the entire village!
20 years ago, the mysterious cavity was just about a few meters wide and deep. But the hole got larger and larger due to erosion and heavy rainfall. And now it’s terrifying!
To date, the huge hole measures more than 210 meters deep. It is surrounded by unstable edges which could easily drop onto the houses situated below. The gap is widening more and more. At any instant it can swallow up more land, reaching the first houses at its feet.
This moving gap is a danger for animals and children who have to go through there to go to school. Villagers want to be relocated and has already asked officials, who will soon survey the hole.
Nobody actually knows when and how appeared the gap. Sometimes residents report loud noises triggered by the cracking earth when the sinkhole suddenly grows.
There is another giant pit gently swallowing Cerro de Pasco, Peru.
