At least thirteen people have been killed and 600 others wounded after a strong and shallow M6.4 earthquake struck off the coast of Albania on Tuesday.

The U.S. Geological Survey said the M6.4 quake was centered 30 kilometers (19 miles) northwest of the capital, Tirana at a depth of 20 kilometers (12 miles).
This is the strongest quake in decades and was reported over 1000 times on the USGS homepage.

Strong aftershocks are currently rattling the region and people were asked to stay out of their homes in the most affected areas.

As reported by AP, a man died in the town of Kurbin after jumping from his home to escape the shaking, a man and a woman were killed in a building collapse in Thumane, and another person died when a building collapsed in Durres.
Minister of Health Ogerta Manastirliu confirmed earlier in the morning that at least 140 people had been injured.

A restaurant was destroyed in western Durres while at least three apartment buildings and the power distribution station were damaged in Thumane.
