Here an update on volcanic eruptions taking place around the world.
Today, we feature the Manam and Mawson Peak activities.
The Manam volcano has erupted violently in Papua New Guinea, on Nov. 6, at 3:20 pm. The powerful explosion released a heavy plume of gas and ash that engulfed the village of Yassa on the west coast.
The volcanic alert was increased to 2 and a red aviation code was issued by VAAC Darwin.
Despite the cloud cover, Mirova identified a thermal anomaly of 63 MW on top of the volcano on November 7, 2019 at 00:40 am.
Meanwhile, a lava flow (Sentinel-2) and thermal anomalies (Mirova) are clearly recognizable along the west flank of the Mawson peak on Heard Island since October 28, 2019.
Volcanic activity in such remote locations is only possible through satellites.
