Mysterious rainbow on Mars…

On April 4, NASA’s Perseverance Mars Rover snapped a photo showing a rainbow stretching across the Martian sky.

Some Twitter users erroneously posited that the arc was a “dustbow” made from light reflecting off the fine dust particles on the red planet’s surface. On April 6, the NASA Perseverance Rover twitter account stepped in with the real story.

The “rainbow” in the photo is actually a lens flare, something that occurs when light hits the camera lens at a certain angle.

NASA’s tweet stated:

Many have asked: Is that a rainbow on Mars? No. Rainbows aren’t possible here. Rainbows are created by light reflected off of round water droplets, but there isn’t enough water here to condense, and it’s too cold for liquid water in the atmosphere. This arc is a lens flare.

While the red planet might not have rain or rainbows, there could be an ocean’s worth of water particles trapped under its surface.

Do you really think NASA is telling you the truth this time?

  1. Sorry NASA, you know that’s BS. I’ve been a professional photographer since 1974. That’s not lens flare. Why don’t you show us some earthly examples of that in EXISTING photographs on earth?
    We’re waiting.

  2. I have a couple of bridges to sell you if you believe we are sending video images from Mars……Just what kind of medium are these images sent on?
    airwaves…?
Just how do you transmit anything in a vacuum?
NASA is a hoax, top to bottom.
These pictures are earth pictures, wake the F up, please.

  3. Also, how does a helicopter fly without an atmosphere. Either Mars has an atmosphere or exploration is fake. Nasa is lying. What else are they lying about?

  4. I did a very simple auto color level adjustment to the image (anyone can do the same). Suddenly the rainbow( or lens flare) is true color. And….the sky is blue. This is the real Mars. Not the fake orange filter NASA puts on their images now. in the 1970’s National Geographic, the Viking images do not have this orange filter and the sky is blue. They told more truth back then.

  5. Looks more like the desert to me, I have to agree with George. If they were really on Mars, I’d have to suggest we would see more underground people. Cause someone cleans the dirt off the camera…
